Honey is definitely one of the top foods on our superfoods list. Honey has multiple benefits if used in the right way.
- Cold, cough and sore throats. Mix a tablespoon of honey with some turmeric and have it before going to sleep, it has amazing soothing effects on the throat and helps with continuous coughing. Alternatively, you can even try mixing honey with turmeric and warm milk.
- Acne and skin breakouts. Use a drop of honey on the affected area right before going to sleep and it will make the breakout vanish overnight due to its anti- bacterial properties.
- Dry skin and dry lips. Honey has amazing moisturizing and softening properties. This makes it an amazing ingredient to use while having a bath. Apply some honey if your lips are chapped and leave it on for a short while until they soften.
- Use honey as a natural sweetener and replace it in place of refined sugars.

Honey granola with seeds
1 cup of honey
¼ cup of oil
A pinch of salt
1 cup pumpkin seeds/chia seeds
¼ cup of almonds cut
½ cup sunflower seeds
¼ cup cashews
½ cup raisins
4 cups rolled oats
Heat oven at 300° F. Lightly oil 2 baking sheets. Mix the seeds, nuts, oil, salt and the oats. Spread this mixture on the baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes until golden brown. Be careful not to burn it. Remove the granola from the oven and let it cool. Drizzle the honey over the baked granola. Store the mixture in air tight containers.
Grilled Ricotta Plums with Honey
1 tbsp granulated sugar
6 plums (cut in half)
1 cup ricotta
1 tsp orange zest
3 tbsp honey
Sprinkle sugar over the cut side of your plums. Heat the grill to a medium heat. Grill plums with the cut side facing down until they begin to caramelize. Turn and cook for another 2 minutes. Combine the ricotta and orange zest in a separate bowl. Place the plums on a plate and scoop the ricotta mixture on the top. Drizzle the honey over the dish while serving. You can always choose to add a few chopped nuts if you’d like to.
Some other fun ways you can use honey are with sauces, spreads and dips like honey butter or barbecue sauce. You can also use honey with your breakfast cereals and on many snacks.
