The Real Reason Your Face Remains Chubby: Water Retention

Do you eat, sleep and train right but your face seems a tad on the chubby end? That may be due to the fact that your body has a lot of water retention.

Ayurveda and Bloating

So let’s clear the air first. Bloating and feeling a bit on the chubbier scale are different. Water retention can give you the appearance of appearing fuller, but bloating can be caused by a plethora of reasons including gas. The good news is that there are Ayurvedic remedies for both bloating and water retention. Ayurveda believes that the Vata dosha is primarily imbalanced when there is the physical appearance of bloating, along with the signs and symptoms which accompany this, including:

  • pain
  • discomfort
  • swelling in the face, hands or ankles.

Home Remedies for Bloating and Water Retention

Western and Ayurvedic science agree that bloating primarily comes down to diet and lifestyle. Fix those and you’ll be rocking a square jaw with the best of them in no time.

In order to change your lifestyle we should look at things that affect water retention. Drinking and smoking excessively can cause you to crave foods which are high on sodium or salty foods, these can lead to an excess in water retention and thus, a baby face. Not to mention the hangover won’t help, as when you fall asleep your liver spends most of the time processing the alcohol in your system. Not necessarily the fluid build up. You may wake up looking like someone squared a right hook towards you!

Hit the workout. Your jawline may elude you because you have too much body fat. Lowering that by even a percentage or two can make even Tom Hardy jealous of your choppers.

But if you are taking care of yourself, then the culprit may lie in salty foods alone. Salt is a tricky mineral here, too much of it and it can dehydrate a body, but just the right amount can allow it to absorb water. This can happen when your kidneys are not able to process large quantities of sodium in your body over a period of time, leading to water retention also known as edema.

The trick to beating salty foods is to simply read the labels every time and avoid them. If it’s junk food it probably has tonnes of salt and sugar in it so stay away. Lastly, limit the seasoning on your food. Opt for cinnamon or cayenne pepper instead. The added heat-filled spices are thermogenic which aid in fat burning.

Follow these two pillars of diet and lifestyle to a stronger, more defined jawline.
