There are several ways to treat adult acne. Regular over-the-counter adult acne treatments can help tremendously, but often they can negatively impact one’s skin due to the number of chemicals and ingredients in the products. Thankfully, there are several natural cures for adult acne, including Ayurveda. Natural cures for adult acne tend to be gentler on the skin and treat the root cause of acne.
Here are some of the ways to cure adult acne:
1. Tea Tree Oil
The natural inflammation-fighting properties of a 5% tea tree oil solution is less harsher than a 5% solution of benzoyl peroxide. To use, simply mix a few drops of tea tree oil with 20-40 drops of witch hazel. Use a cotton swab to apply the solution on the affected areas. Repeat this remedy not more than twice a day, as more than this can dry out the skin and further aggravate your acne.
This refreshing herb can remove pore-clogging oil before acne can even begin. To use it for treating acne, mix two tablespoons of finely-chopped fresh mint with two tablespoons each of powdered oatmeal and plain yogurt. Leave the mixture on the face for 10 minutes before rinsing off with water.
The antibiotic properties of honey can help to treat acne. Apply one teaspoon of honey onto affected areas, or make a mask with 1/2 cup of honey and 1 cup plain oatmeal. Leave it on for 30 minutes.
4. Green Tea
The antioxidant and antimicrobial compounds in green tea can help beat acne. Simply cool one cup of green tea and use as a face wash, or place a used green tea bag on the affected areas.
5. Fuller’s Earth
Fuller’s earth is also known as multani mitti in India. It’s superb for oily and acne-prone skin due to its ability to absorb excessive oil on the skin without over-drying it. Fuller’s earth also unclogs the pores. To use as a face pack, mix equal parts of Fuller’s earth, rose water and sandalwood powder into a mix. Add more rose water to adjust the consistency of the paste. Apply the mud pack onto the face and wash off once it’s dry. Repeat this once a week.
This plant is effective in reducing acne inflammation. Take a blender or coffee grinder and add the contents of a chamomile tea bag along with enough water to make a paste. Mix and apply to the acne. Alternatively, steep two chamomile tea bags in one cup of water for 15 minutes. Allow to cool and apply to the face with a cotton ball.
Mix together nutmeg (jaiphal) powder with unboiled milk. Apply this paste on the affected area. This works as a miracle ointment that would zap pimples without leaving a mark.
The burn-relieving properties of aloe can fight infection, promote healing and reduce scarring. To use aloe vera, scrape the gel from an aloe plant and apply directly to acne. You can also purchase aloe gel from health stores; just ensure it is pure, organic aloe without added ingredients.
A natural exfoliant, disinfectant and skin lightener, lemon can prevent the new pimples from forming and also reduce the appearance of scars.
