How to Stay Sane While Standing in an ATM Queue

We would have been better off naming this article ‘5 Tips on How to Get Ahead of the All the People!’ Because really it’s just about people wanting to be first, get done and go on their way.

Since PM Modi has decided to play hardball with those hoarders of black the common man has been crying out, “Intehaan ho gayi, intezaar ki…”

Well, you can either get mad or get smart with our tips to survive a queue – because, let’s face it, you are going to be there for a long, long time.

1. Hydrate with care

What’s one of the easiest ways to get a head rush? Not what you’re thinking. The right answer is to stop drinking water. Yes, carry your own bottle and sip slowly. If you have to go for a toilet break, ask the person next in line to hold your spot (ask nice!) or request a bank personnel to save your spot. If you don’t have that luxury, hydrate judiciously as you might be in line for a while.

2. Bring something to munch on – books and snacks

Staring at the back of the head of the person ahead of you is not an ideal way to pass the day. Get some light reading done to make the wait worth the while. Being in queue can also bring on an episode of the munchies – so carry delish jalapeno-flavored peanuts, grain crackers and quinoa puffs.

3. Big bags are a no-no

Bank robbers need big bags; all they do is make security keep you around for longer. To cut short security searches and avoid potential problems only carry what you absolutely need to. It’s a trip to an ATM not a picnic.

4. Don’t do the Mannequin Challenge in the queue

Standing for long hours and feel like you are turning to stone? Every few minutes, bend your knees and try to stretch as far as is comfortably possible. Stiff knees are not your friend today, and not in the long run.

5. Don’t get mad

Shouting, pushing and getting angry will not get you your cash faster. Do some deep breathing or take some gotu kola to caaaalm down. Understand that losing your temper is unlikely to achieve your goal and you could just end up on the internet in a viral video being laughed at by a billion Indians.
