We all remember how heartbreaking it was to give up on our favorite sugary foods when the low fat craze was in. Fear not, fat is back. Yes, certain fats are good for you. So we’re here to burst the bubble and tell you which fatty foods to avoid. Don’t worry, we will help you with some good fats to eat for weight loss too.

Fats provide essential fatty acids. Our body cannot produce these essential fatty acids, hence you have to derive them from your food. The reason fats are generally looked at with such scorn is because they harbor twice the calories compared to carbohydrates or proteins. Saturated fat and trans fat are both considered ‘bad’ fats. They are known to raise blood cholesterol and contribute to clogging arteries.

Fatty Foods to Cut from Our Diet

We’ve eliminated these bad fat foods from our diets and switched to healthy fat foods instead. If you want to learn how to cut down on fatty foods, at least the wrong ones, you’re in the right place.

French fries and potato chips are very high in calories and dripping with oil. Studies say potato chips contribute to more weight gain per serving than any other food. We know fries are our favorite fast food to munch on, but you can substitute them with nuts. From hazelnuts to walnuts, nuts are a great way to deliver fats which are healthy for your heart. They are fun and are great snacks. Don’t overdo it though, too much of a good thing is also not the best thing because nuts have a high calorie count.

Candy bars are very unhealthy. They have tons of sugar, oils and refined flour. Much like a readymade packet of ‘unhealthy.’ There is one type of chocolate which you can try though. Dark chocolate is a health food that tastes incredible. Dark chocolate is known to be good for your heart. It is also loaded with antioxidants so you can now enjoy chocolate guilt-free.

Cookies and cakes are filled with refined sugar and refined flour. They generally contain artificial trans fat, remember those bad fats we were talking about? We know it’s difficult to replace these irresistible treats. You can always try granola bars, honey nut bars and dark chocolate.

Don’t Forget these

Some other healthy fat foods you should definitely try are avocados. Make some guacamole or other avocado dip. They are good for your heart thanks to the healthy fats they contain.

If you are a big fan of salads and Italian food, olive oil is the best for you. Olive oil is a rockstar like that, you can use it in multiple cuisines and to cook your meats. Olive oil contains Vitamins E and K. It also contains powerful antioxidants. Use it in your salad dressing, sprinkle it over your pasta or serve with bread.

Try flax seeds, fatty fish, whole eggs and cheese as great sources of good fats too.

So you now know what to eat and what not to eat. Enjoy your meal!
